14th February 2020

Press Release regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus)

The Chinese Resource Centre of Northern Ireland continues to operate as normal. All our services (eg, Sure Start, Afterschool club, Roma Health and Advice, Language classes, Tai Qi, Salsa etc.) remain open.

Some of our users have followed the guidance of the UK Chief Medical Officer:-

'Anyone who has travelled from certain areas in the last 14 days is advised to remain indoors if they are experiencing a fever and a cough as well as shortness of breath and breathing difficulties'

The Public Health Agency (PHA) has confirmed that no cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed in Northern Ireland. 21 tests have been completed and all results have come back negative (as at 2pm on 12 February 2020).

The most up-to-date information on COVID-19 can be found at ;_  https://www.publichealth.hscni.net/news/covid-19-coronavirus

“A helpline has also been established for anyone in Northern Ireland who has travelled to China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Macau in the past 14 days. The helpline number is 0300 200 7885 and is available 24/7.

Our thoughts are with many of our family members and friends back in China as they battle to overcome the threat of this virus.  We wish the authorities every success in bringing the situation under control. We are humbled that so many of our Chinese Community in Northern Ireland have given generously to support Belfast’s sister city (Shenyang) by sending much-needed medical supplies.  Thank you! This work will continue.
